Advice for Would-Be Mothers
For first time mothers, the experience of having a baby can be a frightening but also an exciting occurrence. It is fraught with challenges, but it is also something that can give you joy like no other phase of your life can.
The best way to cope with the changes that are sure to come is to be prepared. Or at least, as much as you can be prepared. To help you cover some of the basics, here are some tips.
1. Get a good doctor. Once you find out that you’re pregnant, the first order of business is to look for a reliable doctor. Ask around for doctors who have great recommendations from past patients.
2. Keep yourself healthy. This is the time when you need to be very conscious of your diet. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits and avoid unhealthy, manufactured meals. Take the vitamins prescribed by your doctor and get enough sleep and rest.
3. Educate yourself. It will not hurt if you attend pregnancy lectures and even enroll in exercise classes for pregnant women. Learn as much as you can by asking your mom, your friends who are already mothers and most especially, your doctor.
4. Make a list of things you will need when it’s time to give birth. If you’re still early on in your pregnancy, you can start by making a list of the things you will take with you when you start your labor. A month before, you can start putting these things in a bag so it can just be picked up on your way to the hospital.
5. Enjoy it as much as you can. There would be discomfort, pain even. But the experience is one of the highlights of being a woman. Appreciate the fact that you are able to bring a baby in this world, keep in mind that you have created a miracle.
